"Black Friday." An attempt to corner gold by speculators Jay Gould and Jim Fisk causes a panic on Wall Street.

In later years, "Black Friday" is used to describe the day that panic consumes consumers when trying to be the first to get that sweet plasma screen TV.

And people get trampled to death. For stuff.
