The Brazilian government conquers the town of Canudos, the last stronghold of radical preacher Antonio Conselheiro and his followers. Conselheiro was a champion of the poor and oppressed and established a peaceful settlement in the town with the permission of the local government. But, as most know all too well, you don't bring peace to a gunfight.
