George Bernard Shaw's "The Devil's Disciple" premieres in Manhattan. After the play, Mr. Shaw gets up on stage and explains to the audience how his work is superior to that of William Shakespeare's because his hero is saved at the last minute which is wholly more satisfying than a stage full of dead bodies. When Mr. Shaw is informed by the stage manager that Irish people aren't allowed in the Fifth Avenue Theatre... well, let's say that things become even more awkward and leave it at that.
