The Royal Navy's HMS Canopus is launched from Portsmouth, England, continuing a long and storied tradition of the difference between how Great Britain and America pronounce things. And yes, when I first read the word "Canopus" out loud, I'm sure it was not only wrong, but it also conjured some weird off-putting images for me.
