From the pages of the New-York Tribune: Among the steerage passengers who arrived in Philadelphia on Sunday was a Chinaman named Go Hang. Knowing that he would be debarred from landing on account of his nationality, he earnestly declared that he was "Ilish," but he failed to convince the officials of the truth of his statement. (Author's note: Oh, racism in historical context. You're still so delightfully awful. Didn't even have to change a word of this article.)
