Swedish cross-country skier Per-Erik Hedlund is born. He would go on to win the 50 km event by a margin that has never been equaled. Because he would wear a red cap and white uniform, future competing Swedes would wear red caps and white uniforms until 1976, stopping only because it was becoming an inside joke among other countries about how Swedish cross-country skiers only wear red caps and white uniforms... you really had to be there.
