Dear National Days,
Maybe this is the time to cool some jets as far as what celebration is assigned a National Day. Honestly, with the amount of food being tossed on top of the timeline on a yearly basis, further escalating childhood obesity and adult onset diabetes--which will inevitably call for a debate about what freedom means because HOW DARE YOU TRY TO RESTRAIN MY TWINKIE FROM MY FREEDOMS--perhaps right now we can let that go. For right now. If nothing more than to scrutinize the idea.
National Days... you sweet and benign declaration of stuff that America has the feels for... don't make us line up National Women's Equality Day with National Dog Day. Don't parallel them. Don't associate them. Even if by accident, don't do it. Women's Equality Day was first recognized in 1973. Dog Day was recognized in 2005.
Yesterday was Kiss and Make Up Day, so...
Okay, not that one either. Two days ago was National Peach Pie and Waffle and also Maryland Day. Any reason we can't also celebrate dogs on that day? All respect to Colleen Page for vying for a day like this to be acknowledged, where we may collectively consider rescue dogs and the trouble gone through to make sure they have a home, but...
National Women's Equality Day should be solidified as its own day. It's important enough to acknowledge all on its own.
If a conservative-minded person of interest complains about fairness, tell then they are acting like what they think a liberal is. That should shut them up.
Dogs don't care what day you give them. Feed them, pet them, throw a toy for them to fetch. They will never object.
August 26th should be--should only be--National Women's Equality Day. Tell somebody.
